What are the LipSense ingredients?
Quick answer
SeneGence LipSense® Color is built from a quick-drying Alcohol Denat. carrier, a flexible long-wear film, shade pigments and soothing botanicals, and Moisturizing Gloss seals it with Shea Butter, vitamin E and Glycerin. Each shade and finish has its own label, so here are Chai Color and Glossy Gloss in full.

What is in Chai LipSense Color?
- Alcohol Denat., a cosmetic-grade alcohol, stabilizes the formula so you can apply multiple thin layers.
- Acrylates/Octylacrylamide Copolymer is one named part of the flexible film; the full Permeable Polymer Matrix behind it is SeneGence’s own. LipSense® Long-Lasting Liquid Lip Color, our transfer-proof long-lasting liquid lipstick, uses the patented Permeable Polymer Matrix for waterproof, kiss-proof, transfer-proof wear for up to 18 hours. LipSense® Moisturizing Gloss is the amplifier: it seals the color film and brings vitamins and support ingredients, such as vitamin E and Shea Butter, to the lips. The film is built to last. LipSense Long-Lasting Liquid Lip Color offers waterproof, kiss-proof, transfer-proof wear for up to 18 hours. See how long LipSense lasts or the LipSense wear study.
- Iron oxides, titanium dioxide and a lake dye give Chai its shade. Chai does not list mica, though shimmer shades may. SeneGence buys mica only from suppliers with strict child-labor prohibitions and active responsible-sourcing programs, and requires proof of both before supplier approval.
- Isodonis Japonicus Leaf/Stalk Extract, Hypericum Perforatum (St. John's Wort) Extract, Paeonia Suffruticosa (Tree Peony) Root Extract and Tilia Cordata (Linden) Flower Extract bring soothing, antioxidant, comfort and moisture support.
- PPG-20 Methyl Glucose Ether adds conditioning glide as the layers go on.

What is in Glossy Moisturizing Gloss?
Glossy builds on Dimethicone’s smooth, sealing glide with Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Tocopheryl Acetate, Tocopherol and Retinyl Palmitate, and adds Glycerin, which attracts water to lips. Each finish has its own label; check yours on its product page. LipSense Moisturizing Gloss.
Why does LipSense use Alcohol Denat.?
The liquid carrier helps you spread Color in thin, controlled layers before its long-wear film sets. Alcohol Denat. is ethyl alcohol used in cosmetic science to dissolve ingredients into a liquid formula. In LipSense® Chai, Alcohol Denat. carries a liquid formula that you apply in thin layers before sealing with Gloss. Read the ingredient’s role in Chai. The alcohol evaporates as the color sets, so let the visible wet shine disappear before the next coat; Gloss then brings Shea Butter and vitamin E comfort back to the lips. How do Color, Gloss and Ooops! work together?
The LipSense system uses Liquid Lip Color, compatible Moisturizing Gloss, and Ooops! Remover. Color makes the long-wear film, and Moisturizing Gloss is the required conditioning seal after the third layer sets, refreshed through the day whenever you like. Ooops!™ Lip Color Remover handles correction and removal: dip the wand, gently rub the applicator over the color, and wipe clean with tissue. See how Color, Gloss and Ooops! work together, the application sequence, the step-by-step application answer or Ooops! Lip Color Remover.
Is LipSense vegan and cruelty-free?
SeneGence is cruelty-free and never tests on animals. All topical products are vegan-friendly, and everything is formulated without gluten-containing ingredients. If you avoid a specific ingredient, check the label of the shade and finish you choose.
